Why does my heating propane lights remain on?
I have a propane heater (30K to 50K BTU) for use in construction, garage, etc. It is a small unit. Well, it will not stay lit. I can turn it on, but when I release the button it stops working. What's the deal?
This is certainly the thermocouple. It is the smallest object that is in the path of the pilot flame. It is there to prove that there is inflammation, causing the main gas valve to remain open. You can get a new thermocouple in any hardware store or Home Depot. They are not specific other than you want to buy one that is the same length as the original. This is a simple replacement anyone can do with normal tools you have in your house.
