Do you need a torsion bar unloading tool to install a leveling kit?
Im want to install a leveling kit on my 05 Ranger and the leveling kit I want says to install the new keyways, I need a torsion bar unloading tool. Do I really need one? or can I use something else. I mean, it looks like a C clamp to me.
You don’t need the unloading tool. 2 months ago I installed a set of leveling keys on a friends 04′ Ranger with out it. A regular floor jack is all you need.
Depending on how much lift the new keys are supposed to give you, the best thing to do is crank them 50 – 60% over the original ride height. For example, if you have a 3″ leveling kit then you should adjust the keys to give you 1.5″ – 1.75″ of lift. The reason for doing this is to prevent damaging the existing torsion bars because leveling keys put a huge amount of added stress on them.
