Ledisi carries the torch
A clear, brassy, powerful voice fills the room and in an instant you know what ladies and gentlemen of the year 1940 must have felt listening to Ella Fitzgerald singing "Blues in the Night. But open your eyes and see what you may be reincarnated in the body of Ella, the spirit and the voice sometimes jazz, sometimes blues singer, Ledisi (pronounced led-duh-see).
There are no notes, hidden under tracks computer or smoke and mirrors used to disguise a mediocre talent. Ledisi is the real thing, and even if you can not recognize his name, his is a voice you'll want to add music to your Rolodex.
So far, Ledisi has been a quiet following of loyal fans, especially in the Bay Area and abroad. It vibrates the clubs and intimate venues throughout the world for a decade, is gaining ground in the underground music scene. His first two albums, Soulsinger in 2000, and the feeling of Orange, but sometimes blue in 2003, were released on the label Music LeSun, a company founded with her Ledisi creative partner Sundra Manning. Although she won the praise and congratulations of some senior members of the industry, it has not received mainstream notoriety measurable, a fact which does not seem to mind in the least world.
"If I'm focused on what is the main river and what is not, I would not stay in business. My focus is on setting quality music, "Ledisi said." It is the record company to ensure that people see me general. I am happy for the fan base I have.

But as the saying goes, what happens in the dark must come to light, and now that Ledisi signed with his first major label, Verve Records, the world is finally starting to see some light bathed all along. His new album, Lost and Found, is already generating a buzz among fans old and new. She moved away from his style a little signing and believes the project shows how much she has grown. She hopes that her core audience will grow with it.
"I think with this disc, they [the fans] are not used to me being cultivated, which means so calm and not as loud and noisy, but I am suffering from a another audience. Continue to support and get me out of shows and I'll give you more. "
Ledisi, who was born in New Orleans, but grew up in Oakland, is not confused by the commercialism and it does not measure success by the standards of the typical industry. It may not have reached Billboard yet, but Ledisi been hand picked to perform on the tribute CD Luther Vandross, Forever, for Always, for Luther, where she sang my sensitivity (gets in the way). She also gave a stirring review of the soul "Blues in the Night" for the love Ella CD compilation we, in particular a project worthy of the young star since she was often hailed as a contemporary version of the legend jazz.
For Ledisi, things happen just in time. She believes the timing is perfect for his new relationship with verve and said she would probably not handling this type of success a decade ago.
"I am a bit more mature now and a little more content with myself and more aware that I was at the time, "Ledisi said." Most of the artists, they come fast and they are not prepared and they do not know their voice yet. They grow in population to see who they are. I am grateful for my experience and grateful for the time because I am more together now. I would not change a thing. "
